That's it!

Christmas is over, now it's the countdown to 2007. All go innit?

Hope the trains are ok in England on the 29th December, son and granddaughter coming that day to spend the New Year with us. Looking forward to that.

The sales have started, more tomorrow too. Not been though, too jolly cold. lol. But at least here, it's dry. None of the dreaded white stuff either. I hate snow. Somebody or other has been singing about Christmas and snow on the radio for days.
OK, it looks pretty on Christmas cards, it looks pretty on photos, but in my opinion, that's where it should stop!

Strange though, most of the soaps on TV have snow near the end of the programme. Amazing. Poor Pauline has died in the snow. Wonder why Sonia didn't do her nursey bit? 30 compressions and mouth to mouth! No one even phoned for an ambulance or did I miss that bit?

21st December. Nearly Christmas!

It's 20:55 on the 21st December. So it's not that far off now is it? Christmas I mean! Doesn't seem long since my friend in Australia was telling me it was six weeks off.
I have this feeling that the older you get, the quicker time goes. Actually, I know it does.

The shops are packed, the roads are busy. The weather isn't too bad here at the moment.
I feel so sorry for those poor souls that were supposed to flying to warmer climes. I hope everything gets sorted out in time.

It's the time of year that I feel sorry for those on their own too. Ok, if they are happy about it. It's the lonely people I mean.

Also, I hope that people who are missing loved ones, find some comfort. And I do hope, missing children and family members get in touch.

Happy Christmas and a great New Year to all! X X X X X X

Marzipan. Christmas Cake & New Gadget!

Today, I have plonked the marzipan on the cake. Tomorrow I will do the icing.

Himdownstairs and me are slowly getting to grips with our new Video/DVD player. It records on DVD, erasable or ordinary DVD discs.
Now at our age, things aren't easy, the "How to do it" book or as we call it, the "Destruction Book," could be in a foreign language for all the sense it makes to us. lol

I have always been the same, the instruction book of anything does not instruct me on anything, I get there through trial and error.

Is it me? But when reading the instructions, I make hard work of what sometimes, turns out to be a really simple instruction.
I am not made out for gadgets. How I ever got to work a computer, goodness knows. Trial and error! A lot of trial and many, many, errors.

Countdown to Christmas for me.

Today I have been to work, not to actually work but attend a course.
I don't think I will be working before Christmas now. I have "booked" my hoilday from 23rd of December to the 3rd January.
I say booked, but it's just to let them know that I will be busy messing about and won't be able to work. I have said, I will work a few hours of Christmas Eve but I don't think I will have to.

Then my son and granddaughter are coming for a visit, that will be on the 29th. I am looking forward to that very much, so is himdownstairs. They will be stopping over the New Year.
So they will arrive in 2006 and leave in 2007. lol

Is it Saturday?

With only working one day this week, I have my days all mixed up! I keep thinking it's Sunday. I really worry about myself sometimes.
Dementia?
Hope not.
I wouldn't mind but it's not as if I work the same days every week, sometimes I don't work at all.

Well, the tree is up and sparkling. Himdownstairs did it. I just seem to get in the way. So he tells me anyway. No balloons again this year, I hate those things! I know they look good but......

The Christmas cards have gone, goodness knows whether they will reach their destination though. I sent them a couple of days before the allotted time!

Refused to work!

They rang me today and asked if I would go into work. I said, "No thanks."
So why do I feel guilty? I am allowed to say no, it's part of my job!
I think it's because of my work mates, the other nurses. I mean, last night was hellish and I just couldn't face something like that again!
We will see if they ring me again soon. lol

Tuesday & Christmas Dinner!

Today, I went to work!

I went for my free Christmas dinner. lol Didn't have the pudding!

But following that, a Fire Lecture. We have to attend one of those every year.

Next week I get to do mouth to mouth on a dummy and try to save its life. (Well, you get the drift!) That is a yearly thing too. Everyone has to do it. Possibly only nurses and clinical support nurses.
But the Fire Lecture, everyone who works at the hospital has to do that!

Then came home, made Spag Bol and then finished off writing my Christmas cards! Himdownstairs washed up, bless him. I am exhausted now! I think it would have been easier actually working on the ward.

Got a pile of ironing awaiting me, maybe do that tomorrow unless I get the call to work!

11th December. Shopping.

Worked the late shift last night.
Did a bit of shopping today. Just stuff for Christmas.
Winning another bid on Ebay. Up to now anyway. Bet I am pipped at the post. lol. Not to worry though.
Tomorrow, I go for Fire Lecture jobby at work. Then eat my free Christmas lunch paid for by the hospital! The only thing we get for nowt.
Before I did my training, nurses had a day off for Christmas shopping. Didn't matter if they shopped or not, they were allowed a day off. It was a kind of a goodwill thing I think. Then, just my luck, it stopped before I could take advantage. lol

Christmas is coming.......fast!

Golly gosh, today was really busy in the shops. It can only get worse I suppose.
We all dash out to buy stuff that would feed a small army for a week and we might just eat some of it too before we explode.
Then, New Year, lots of resolutions made and broken the next day.
Mine last year was!
I resolved to stop the cigs, it lasted, maybe until dinner-timeon New Years day. My niece did much better, she did lapse but now, no longer smokes. Well, not until her next lapse anyway! But unlike me, she wasn't a "serious" smoker! Thank goodness!
But before I sign off and before I show you my beautiful work of art, may I just say, it's nearly 5 pm and I haven't had a cig today!

Thursday.

So very windy and wet and it seems it's going to get worse over the weekend. Well, my cup runneth.......................
Reports of a tornado in London. All I can say, is roll on summer!
Thought I had got away with not working this week, but no. I am going tomorrow. lol
I "borrowed" this lovely Teddy bear from

Remembering my Dad.

It would be my dad's birthday today. He would have been 85. He died in 1984.
It's hard to imagine how he would have been at eightyfive. My mum would be the same age too. She died when she was 48.
Both sadly missed.
But life goes on. At least, they have been spared the (maybe,) indignity of losing their minds, demented, CVA, and untold other illnesses.
Maybe they wouldn't have had those things. That is one thing I will never know. But it gives me a little comfort.

Very windy Sunday.

I have done my ironing and after writing this, I am going to defrost the freezer. Himdownstairs said he would do it but bless him, I think it will be easier and quicker to do it myself. lol
I don't like doing it. But, woe is me, it needs doing.
I have to keep busy as I am on day 5 of my not smoking. Just applied a nicotine patch. Found myself getting ratty with himdownstairs! I was hoping to wean myself off them. I mean, one day I will have to. Suppose I should follow the directions though.
I don't smoke but I could just do with one now. No, I don't need one do I?????
Day five is always my "breakdown day but NOT today if I can help it!

December 2nd.

November seems to have gone very quickly. Christmas isn't long off, not really. It will creep up on me and himdownstairs, very fast!
One year, it seem to pop up so quick we didn't realise it was that week! I mean, how forgetful can one get? lol
I blame the shops etc. They start their Christmas stuff very early, so we get so used to decorations and things like that too soon. That is my excuse anyway!
Does anyone know, where in England, can I buy some Ralph Lauren socks for my boy?
I am now on day four without a cig but they are on my mind now. HELP! Been busy the last few days so all went well. Will Power, where are you? I need you today.
